Know what is possible before arrival.

Hedingham is a medieval site, so access differs sharply between the grounds and the upper Keep. This page makes those boundaries explicit rather than hiding them in small print.

01

Castle

The Tapestry Room on the ground floor has ramped access. The upper levels are reached by substantial external and spiral stairs and there is no lift.

02

Grounds

Much of the estate can be explored on accessible routes, although woodland surfaces and gradients vary and weather can change conditions.

03

Wheelchairs & pushchairs

Wheelchairs and pushchairs can use much of the grounds. Pushchairs cannot access the upper Castle floors.

04

Facilities

An accessible toilet is available in the grounds opposite the Castle. Carers accompanying a paying visitor are admitted free on general-admission days.
