Ground — Tapestry Room

The most accessible Castle level and an atmospheric room used today for dining, intimate events and gatherings.

Bar, alcove seating and an adaptable event floor that makes the working life of the modern Castle visible.

Banqueting Hall

The great ceremonial room beneath Hedingham's immense Norman arch, now used for weddings, dinners and events.

A modern bedroom placed carefully inside the medieval fabric, turning the Keep into an overnight experience.

1066 → de Vere

William the Conqueror granted Hedingham to Aubrey de Vere. His descendants became the Earls of Oxford.

1215 → Magna Carta

Robert de Vere, 3rd Earl of Oxford, was one of the 25 barons connected with Magna Carta.

1485 → Bosworth

John de Vere, 13th Earl, backed Henry Tudor at Bosworth and later developed the estate, including the Tudor bridge.

01Is Hedingham a ruin?+

No. The Keep survives as a substantial, roofed, multi-floor Norman building and remains actively used.

02Can every floor be reached step-free?+

No. Only the Tapestry Room on the ground floor has step-free access. The upper floors require historic stairs.
